Landscape Design & Planning

Landscape Design in Burlington, Oakville, Dundas & Hamilton

Plan the whole property before you build a piece of it.

Creative Concepts turns your ideas, site conditions and priorities into a clear plan for how your landscape should look, function and be built.

Better decisions

Good Construction Starts With Better Decisions

A landscape design is more than a drawing of where the patio, pool or garden should go.

It is where the larger decisions are made: how people move through the property, where furniture fits, how spaces relate to the house, how grades change, where water moves, which materials work together, where privacy is needed and how the entire project fits the investment you are prepared to make.

The earlier those decisions are resolved, the easier it becomes to price, coordinate and build the project with confidence.

CLIENT PERSPECTIVE

David Ovcjak

“Mike and his team provide a first class professional landscape design and construction service. They took the utmost care to guide us through all phases of our project. Their attention to detail during construction is second to none. My wife and I would highly recommend Creative Concepts.”

Whole property planning

Design the Whole Property, Not Just the Next Feature

The strongest landscapes are planned as connected environments. The patio, pool, entrance, planting, lighting, drainage and structures all influence one another, even when they are constructed at different times.

01

Space Planning & Circulation

Plan patios, paths, pool decks and gathering spaces around real movement, furniture and everyday use. This is especially important in complete Backyard Landscaping projects.

02

Grades, Drainage & Site Conditions

Slopes, drainage, elevations and access affect nearly every other design decision and should be resolved early, before Landscape Construction begins.

03

Hardscape & Material Selection

Coordinate stone, interlock, porcelain, masonry and wood so the materials work together and suit the home.

04

Pools & Outdoor Living

Plan Pool Landscaping, Outdoor Kitchens, fire features and seating areas as one connected outdoor environment.

05

Planting, Privacy & Lighting

Use planting and lighting to create structure, privacy, seasonal interest and a landscape that works after dark.

06

Budget & Phasing

Use the plan to prioritize investment and establish a long-term direction that can be built in logical phases.

Design process

From Early Ideas to a Clear Landscape Plan

01

Discovery & Site Review

We begin with the property, how you want to use it, the project scope and the practical conditions that will shape the design.

02

Concept & Layout

We establish the overall layout and relationships between patios, pools, paths, structures, planting and open space.

03

Design Development

The concept is refined through decisions about dimensions, materials, planting, lighting and other project details.

04

Plans to Construction

The final design can include the drawings and visualization appropriate to the project, then move directly into Landscape Construction when Creative Concepts is building the work.

Build-ready thinking

Design With the Build in Mind

A landscape can look excellent on paper and still be difficult, inefficient or unnecessarily expensive to construct.

Creative Concepts approaches landscape design with the next phase in mind. Access, elevations, drainage, materials, sequencing and construction requirements can influence the design while changes are still easy to make.

That connection becomes especially valuable on projects involving pools, retaining walls, patios, structures, outdoor kitchens, lighting, drainage or multiple trades.

From plan to property

See the Landscape Before Construction Starts

A drawing makes decisions visible before they become construction.

Plans and visualization help homeowners understand layout, scale and how major features relate to one another before work begins. That makes it much easier to adjust the design while changes are still simple to make.

Questions

Landscape Design Questions

What is included in a professional landscape design?

The exact scope depends on the project, but landscape design can include site review, concept development, space planning, material direction, master planning, 2D drawings, planting plans, lighting plans and visualization. The goal is to resolve the important decisions before construction begins.

Do I need landscape design before getting a construction estimate?

For a significant landscape project, a resolved design makes detailed estimating much more meaningful because dimensions, materials and scope are better defined. An early budget conversation can happen before the design is finished, but the design gives the construction estimate something specific to price.

Do you provide 2D plans and landscape renderings?

Depending on the project, Creative Concepts can use 2D plans and visualization to communicate layout, scale, materials and the relationship between major features before construction.

Can Creative Concepts build the landscape after designing it?

Yes. Creative Concepts provides landscape construction as well as design, allowing the project to move from planning into construction with the design intent connected to the way the property will actually be built.

Can a landscape be designed to be built in phases?

Yes. A complete master plan can establish the long-term direction for the property even when construction needs to happen in stages. Planning the later phases early helps prevent today's work from conflicting with what is intended for the property later.

When should I start the landscape design process?

Start well before the date you hope to begin construction. Larger projects may require design revisions, selections, estimating, engineering or permits, and the construction schedule also needs to be coordinated. Beginning early gives the project more room for thoughtful decisions.
